This is not a vory satisfactory letter, since
it does not touch on the most important question raised by us on 61789, namely, the reservation of these yards for His Majesty's Government.
I have now discussed the question with Ir Anderson of the Shipping Controller's Office He takes
if material can be obtained for building the viow that His Majesty's Government should certainly reserve the Hong Kong and Whampoa Dock Company
's yard, which is capable of building vessels up to 450 feet,
800 58972, sinco this yard will be able to build ships
to the standard pattern (400 feet). He saiu that the
Controller would also like to consider the case of the
Taikoo Dockyard and the Straits yards, as to which see 59103, and he asked if we would send out to Hong Kong a telegram in terms of the draft submitted.
